SAT  APR 06  2013

Continued dry with partly to mostly cloudy skies over the district and moderate temperatures thru most of Sunday. Assuming the forecast models are right (and they have been bouncing back and forth like a tennis ball at Wimbledon) then we will see VERY strong winds later Sunday into Monday with some wet weather for Mono County. Gusts to over 40 mph are possible in wind prone areas of the Owens Valley and Mono County. Those winds (and moisture) will all depend on the strength and track of the low that will move in a SE direction, later Sunday into Monday. Stay tuned for updates…

SAT  MAR 30  2013

A slow moving closed low will make its trek off the coast today and inland  by Sunday. A chance of showers then exists for the mountains and valleys later today and Sunday, with best shot at precip on Sunday. Showers will linger overnight Sunday into Monday, particularly over the mountains. There will be an ongoing chance of thunderstorms later today thru Sunday. Snow levels will start about 8,500 feet, lowering to 6,500 feet on Sunday in Mono County. Ridging rebuilds along the coast Tuesday and Wednesday, with the next threat of  precipitation Thursday in Mono County. Depending on where the Jet tracks, we <could> see a good shot of moisture next weekend. To far out right now to confirm.

SAT  MAR 23  2013

Nice weekend in store as a Pacific Ridge offshore gradually moves inland. This will allow temperatures to  move upwards through at least Monday to a few degrees above normal. Right now it looks like a troughy pattern (West Coast Trough) might develop mid to end of week. Although its not clear how consolidated these systems will be. So for now, lets put in a slight chance of precipitation end of week. Keep in mid, we are in a drought, so that pattern is going to be hard to break. The one bright spot for you snow fans is that, the latest 8 – 14 day climate outlook for mid and southern California is a 35 – 40% chance of above normal precipitation through March 30th – April 15th. How that translates out remains to be seen.
