    MONDAY 06-SEPT-10, 7:43 am PDT

Slight cooling happened on Sunday and about the same today, ahead of a more powerful trough moving through on Wednesday. Temps should run just about normal today, Labor Day, then a bigger cool down will hit the region mid week. Dry conditions will prevail today and tomorrow with a slight chance of precipitation in the high country on Wednesday and Thursday. After that, weak ridging builds in ahead of another trough over the weekend, so temps will stay a bit below normal through the period.

    SUNDAY 05-SEPT-10, 8:01 am PDT

High pressure weakens today as a low pressure system brushes the area. This will reduce temps today a bit from yesterday. A little more cooling on Labor Day then a bigger cool down by mid week, as a stronger trough moves south then inland about Wednesday and Thursday. Some 10 – 15 degrees lower by Thursday. Not much moisture is associated with this system, but I can’t rule out showers in the upper elevations Wednesday into Thursday as the system passes through. Windy conditions will develop as this system makes it presence felt.

    SATURDAY 04-SEPT-10, 6:18 am PDT

A trough poised to move through the PACNW later today will begin to moderate our warm temperatures starting tomorrow. By Monday we will be back to normal temperature wise and by Wednesday and Thursday, well below normal. This is due to another trough making its presence felt here in Mono and Inyo Counties. Right now things look to remain pretty dry for the mid part of the week, but I can’t rule out some upper elevation showers in that time frame. Troughiness remains the dominate feature in our weather through the end of next week, so temps will remain below normal.

    FRIDAY 03-SEPT-10, 7:02 am PDT

Hot temperatures today as a strong ridge sinks it teeth into our area. We should see temps flirting with the 100s in the Owens Valley and the low 80s for Mammoth. On Saturday the ridge breaks down and the winds pick up. By Sunday, a low pressure system moves through the PACNW and this will start to reduce temperatures through out our area. So for next week, a blocking pattern continues over the Gulf Coast states and in the Central Pacific. This will set up a north to south storm track with potential systems from the Gulf of Alaska and Canada effecting our area. The main effect will primarily be cooler temperatures with a slight chance of upper elevation showers in Mono County about Wednesday of next week.

For you High Country trekkers out there: I expect cooler temperatures and gusty winds, in the high country, to start on Saturday and Sunday. Then as another trough settles in over the district, about Wednesday, you can expect even cooler weather with a chance of precipitation, especially in Mono County. More on all of this as the time nears.

    WEDNESDAY 02-SEPT-10, 7:02 am PDT

High pressure aloft continues to strengthen and this will push temperatures to above normal through Saturday or Sunday. Now by late Saturday an upper level trough approaches the PACNW and by Sunday begins diving across Northern and Central California. This will move the ridge eastward and give us the start of another roller coaster cool down, with temperatures falling to below normal, beginning Labor Day and into the mid part of next week. Our weather should remain dry through out the forecast period with gusty winds at times, particularly in Mono County.
