WED  May 22  2013

Continued breezy and cool as a low pressure system is now parked over Washington and Oregon. Today looks to be the windiest (particularly in Mono County) as the system sets up a thermal pressure gradient belt between the Mojave Desert and the Great Basin. Winds of 15 – 25 mpg G 40 are possible today and tonight for Mono County. Winds then relax a bit on Thursday. By Friday the low will begin to drift north, but general troughiness will be in place through the weekend. Thus locally breezy afternoons and evening are possible Saturday and Sunday. Temps will settle up into the normal range by the Holiday Weekend.

For the Owens Valley:

Today: Sunny. Highs 80 – 83 / Lows 45 – 48. Winds NW 10 – 15 mph G 25.
Thursday: Sunny. Highs 73 – 76 / Lows 45 – 48. Winds N 10 – 15 mph.

For the Town of Mammoth Lakes:

Today: Mostly sunny. Highs 58 / Lows 30. Winds SW 15 – 20 mph G 25.
Thursday: Mostly sunny.  Highs 53 / Lows 31. Winds SW 10 – 15 mph G 25.

For Mono County:

Today: Mostly sunny. Highs 59 – 69 / Lows 21 – 31. Winds SW 15 – 25 mph G 35.
Thursday: Sunny.  Highs 56 – 66 / Lows  24 – 34. Winds SW 15 – 25 mph G 35.

TUE  May 21 2013

Upper ridging is shoved aside as a cool low drops into the PACNW. This system is dry for us (maybe some showers north of the Tahoe basin and up by Susanville), but it brings to the table consistent, gusty winds for the next few days. With low humidity and border line advisory winds, this presents a real fire danger for our district. Temperatures will drop to below normal through end of week, under the presence of the low pressure system.

For the Owens Valley:

Today: Mostly sunny becoming partly cloudy. Highs 84 – 87/ Lows 52 – 55. Winds S 10 – 20 mph G 30.
Wednesday: Sunny. Highs 80 – 83 / Lows 50. Winds SW 10 – 15 mph G 25.

For the Town of Mammoth Lakes:

Today: Mostly sunny becoming partly cloudy. Highs 64 / Lows 34. Winds SW 15 – 20 mph G 35 in the afternoon.
Wednesday: Sunny. Highs 58 / Lows 30. Winds SW 10 – 15 mph G 25.

For Mono County:

Today: Partly cloudy. Highs 67 – 77 / Lows 30 – 35. Winds SW 15 – 25 mph G 45 in the afternoon.
Wednesday: Partly cloudy becoming sunny. Highs 60 – 70 / Lows 23 – 33. Winds SW 10 – 15 mph G 30.

MON  MAY 20 2013

NW flow continues as our district remains between a trough of low pressure over the Great Basin and high pressure over the EPAC.  This has resulted in breezy conditions in most areas. The ridge begins to shift east today, lightening up the winds and raising the temps just a bit. By late Tuesday a low pressure system from the sub-arctic will reside over the PACNW. By Wednesday it will dig south into CA. The system is dry for us but will re-establish gusty winds through Friday.

For the Owens Valley:

Today: Sunny. Highs 79 – 82 / Lows 53 – 56. Winds SW 10 – 15 mph.
Tuesday: Sunny becoming partly cloudy.  Highs 82 – 85 / Lows 52 – 55. Winds W 10 – 20 mph G 25.

For the Town of Mammoth Lakes:

Today: Sunny. Highs 67 / Lows 38. Winds NW 10 – 15  mph.
Tuesday: Sunny becoming partly cloudy. Highs 64 / Lows 35. Winds SW 15 – 25 mph.

For Mono County:

Today: Sunny. Highs 67 – 77 / Lows 31 – 41. Winds NE 5 – 15 mph.
Tuesday: Partly cloudy. Highs 66 – 76 / Lows 28 – 38 Winds SW 15 – 25 mph G 35.

SUN  MAY 19 2013

Upper ridge continues to build in today, bringing temps back up to slightly above normal through Tuesday. It has been breezy here and there and breezes should reduce later today as the ridge becomes more established. About mid week another low will impact the area (specifically the PACNW), dropping temps and kicking up the winds through Friday. Not much moisture but possible advisory winds. Then the low moves out with temps returning to more seasonal for the holiday weekend.

SAT  MAY 18 2013

High pressure is now in control with a slight warming trend through Monday and Tuesday. Then another system moves into the region Wednesday. At this time it looks dry, but strong winds could be a real possibility. So Windy into at least Thursday with temps taking another dip. Next weekend, right now looks nice, with just above seasonal conditions.
