THURSDAY May 31, 2012

Well the last day of May 2012 sees high pressure continuing to build in over the state through Friday. This will result in mostly clear skies and climbing temperatures. I expect some cumulus build up over the Crest each afternoon. A weak shortwave will ride the ridge on Friday bringing the chance of t-storms Friday afternoon. The ridge will begin to slide eastward over the weekend as an area of low pressure forms off the coast. This will allow temps to start edging back down Saturday and Sunday.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

Today: Mostly sunny. Highs 93 and lows 57. Winds SE 5 mph.
Friday: Sunny.  Highs 95 and lows 60. Winds SE 5 – 8 mph.

FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES:

Today: Mostly sunny becoming partly cloudy. Highs 70 and lows 46. Winds NE 5 mph.
Friday: 30% chance of afternoon t-storms. Highs 73 and lows 47. Winds NE 5- 10 mph.

FOR MONO COUNTY:

Today: Mostly sunny becoming partly cloudy. Highs 76 – 86 and lows 39 – 49. Winds NE 10 mph.
Friday: A chance of afternoon and evening showers and t-storms. Highs 80  – 90 and lows 40 – 50. Winds W 10 – 15 mph.

WEDNESDAY May 30, 2012

Very nice weather continues for our district as high pressure slowly builds in. Thus a slow warming trend will ensue, peaking about Thursday or Friday. The ridge will start to give way to a broad trough in the EPAC and West Coast Friday thru Monday. Thus I expect temps to lower slightly during that time frame and Mono County could see some thunderstorm action particularly on Friday.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

Today: Sunny then clear at night. Highs 82 – 89 and lows 59 – 66. Winds NW 10 – 15 mph.
Thursday: Mostly sunny. Highs 89 – 96 and lows 63 – 68. Winds NW 5 – 10 mph.

FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES:

Today: Mostly sunny. Highs 70 and lows 45. Winds W 5 -10 mph.
Thursday: Mostly sunny becoming partly cloudy. Highs 69 and lows 46. Winds E 5 – 10 mph.

FOR MONO COUNTY:

Today: Sunny skies.  Highs 73 – 83 and lows 37 – 47. Winds NE 10 – 15 mph.
Thursday: Sunny skies becoming partly cloudy. Highs 75 – 84 and lows 39  – 49. Winds NE 10  mph.

TUESDAY May 29, 2012

Warming temps thru mid week, reaching their peak by Thursday, as high pressure lodges itself over the state. By Friday a low pressure system from the Gulf of Alaska drops south and pushes the ridge inland. This sets up the chance of showers in Mono County on Friday. Otherwise very nice late spring weather this week.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

Today: Mainly sunny. Highs 80 – 85 and lows 55 – 60. Winds SW 10 – 15 mph.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny. Highs 85 – 90 and lows 58 – 63. Winds NW 5 – 10 mph.

FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES:

Today: Mostly sunny. Highs 63 and lows 41. Winds W 5 – 10 mph.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny with mostly clear in the evening. Highs 69 and lows 44. Winds NE 5 mph.

FOR MONO COUNTY:

Today: Sunny.  Highs 67 – 77 and lows 33 – 43. Winds NE 10  mph.
Wednesday: Sunny. Highs 72 – 82 lows 36 – 46. Winds N  10  mph.

MONDAY May 28, 2012

Gradually warming temps and clear skies for the remainder of this week. All due to an amplification of high pressure over the region. Temperatures currently expected to be just below normal today, will increase to 5 – 10 degrees above normal by Friday. A few passing systems will bring the possibility of thunderstorms at the Crest level off / on during the week.

SUNDAY May 27, 2012

Stunningly beautiful today as ridging builds inward from the coast. After our little interlude with winter, late Spring has returned with those deep cobalt blue skies and 100 + mile visibility. Pretty much going to stay that as we leave May and inter into June. The ridge will amplify this week with temps pushing 10 + degrees above normal by Friday. A few weak disturbances will pass overhead, but dry conditions will prevail. ENJOY!
