“Giving you the reasons why Eastern Sierra weather happens.”

TUESDAY August 07, 2012

One word for our weather this week is HOT. High pressure centered over New Mexico continues to retrograde into our area bringing with it well above normal temperatures. China Lake was the hot spot in our district yesterday with 107 degrees. The other concern is the possibility of convection which mostly stayed east of our area yesterday. But today and Wednesday we should see some monsoonal moisture begin to push in. Thus a slight chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms then thru the weekend. With this, fire danger is at an extreme.

For the Owens Valley:

Today: Mostly sunny becoming partly cloudy. Highs 100 / lows 65. Winds SE 10 – 15 mph.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny becoming partly cloudy. Highs 101 / lows 67. Winds SE 5 – 15 mph.

For the Town of Mammoth Lakes:

Today: Mostly sunny becoming partly cloudy with isolated thunderstorms possible. Highs 85 / lows 53. Winds SW 10 – 15 mph.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny becoming partly cloudy 20% chance of thunderstorms. Highs 86 / lows 54. Winds SW 5 – 10 mph.

For Mono County:

Today: A few clouds with an isolated thunderstorm possible. Highs 83 – 93 / lows 41 – 51. Winds SW 10 – 15 mph.
Wednesday: Sunny becoming partly cloudy, afternoon thunderstorms possible. Highs 84 – 94 / lows 44 – 54. Winds SW 10 – 15 mph.
