WEDNESDAY August 01, 2012

The first day of  August 2012 brings mostly clear skies and temps a bit above normal for most areas. All due to a strong ridge of high pressure centered over the Texas Panhandle. Monsoonal moisture so far has been limited in our area, but some T-Storms with lightening did invade the mountain elevations of the Owens Valley and the Town of Keeler last night. I have a report into my office this morning that a few structures have been hit by lightening strikes. The mountains surrounding the Owens Valley can expect a chance of T-Storms again this afternoon. Right now it looks like additional moisture will be pulled farther northwest over the weekend. This should bring an additional chance of showers and thunderstorms to the district with slightly lower temps.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

Today: A 20% chance of afternoon showers and t-storms. Highs 99 / lows 66. Winds SE 5 – 10 mph.
Thursday: Sunny. Highs 99 / lows 66. Winds SE 6 – 8 mph.

FOR THE TOWN OF MAMMOTH LAKES:

Today: Mostly sunny. Highs 80 / lows 51. Winds S 5 – 10 mph.
Thursday: Mostly sunny. Highs 80 / lows 52. Winds SW 10 – 15 mph.

FOR MONO COUNTY:

Today: Mostly sunny. Highs 84 – 94 / lows 40 – 50. Winds S 10 – 15 mph.
Thursday: Mostly sunny. Highs 85 – 95 / lows 42  – 52. Winds SW 10 – 15 mph.
